Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the symbolic significance of the unveiling in advance of the public holiday, Constitution Day of Kazakhstan, and emphasized the date, August 29, as a special date in the history of Kazakhstan, press service of Akorda reports. 

"This day in 1949 nuclear weapons were first tested at the Semipalatinsk test site. Over the course of 40 years, more than 450 nuclear explosions affected millions of people. August 29, 1991, by my decree the Semipalatinsk test site was closed. Today, during the International Day against Nuclear Tests, we are opening in our capital a new symbolic memorial — The Wall of Peace," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that our state, maintaining internal political stability and social peace, consistently abides by the principles of peace, friendship and mutual respect among peoples and cultures. The President also pointed out that Kazakhstan's peace initiatives have become part of history, setting a source of inspiration for present and future generations. 

"The closing of the Semipalatinsk test site, nuclear disarmament, the initiative on the creation of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, Manifesto: “The World. The 21st century,” Astana process on Syria – all these steps represent a concrete contribution of Kazakhstan to strengthening global security," the Head of State said. 

The Head of State emphasized that throughout the ages mankind suffered large conflicts, racial and religious intolerance, that have caused real and mental “confine” between peoples. The President underlined that today the global community faces new challenges posed by international terrorism and radicalization. 

"The memorial is a meaningful appeal to know and remember the moments of history – to respect peace and prosperity that we achieved on our land. The Wall of Peace memorial is another reminder to new generations to remember the value of peace and avoid the tragic events of the past," the President of Kazakhstan said.

The Head of State trusted that the memorial would become the capital's another tourist attraction, popular land and urban infrastructure.

"Our peace message is, particularly, to future generations: “Preserve peace!” – the most important thing that everyone must have," Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed out.

In the end, the President of Kazakhstan thanked Aktobe region for Beibitshilik Qabyrgasy (The Wall of Peace) memorial that was presented in honor of the 20th anniversary of Astana, and wished the capital`s citizens, guests and all the nation of Kazakhstan happiness, peace and prosperity.
