Alikhan Smailov holds Commission meeting to investigate reason of fire at ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC mine

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting of the Government Commission on investigation of the causes and elimination of consequences of the fire at the mine named after Kostenko JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau".

"First of all, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased miners. Their families will be provided with all the necessary assistance. We wish the injured a speedy recovery. They are provided with full medical care," Alikhan Smailov said.

During the meeting, detailed information was provided on the current situation at the mine, the progress of rescue operations and other measures taken.

Prime Minister emphasized that the situation with industrial safety at the enterprise remains critical.

Following the results of the Government session, Prime Minister instructed the akimat of Karaganda region together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other government agencies to take the necessary measures to eliminate the accident.

He also emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation of the causes of the accident and identification of the guilty parties.

In addition, the Ministry of Labor together with the Akimat and JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" instructed to provide assistance to the families of injured and deceased miners, and the Ministry of Industry and Construction - to take measures to complete the procedures for the transfer of the enterprise in favor of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In addition, on behalf of the Head of State, the decision of the Commission acting General Director of JSC "ArcelorMittal Temirtau" determined Vadim Bassin.

Bassin was working as First Deputy Akim of Karaganda region since October 2022. He started his career as an electrician at the metallurgical plant. Member of the National Kurultai, holder of the title "Kazakhstan Yenbek Yeri".
