Alikhan Smailov meets with U.S. Ambassador in Kazakhstan

Topical issues of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United States of America discussed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Daniel Rosenblum, U.S. Ambassador in Kazakhstan.

The parties reviewed the current situation in the trade and economic sphere, discussed the prospects for strengthening cooperation in the energy and transport and logistics sectors, agriculture, health, education, environment and touched upon a number of other issues.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Kazakhstan considers the United States as a strategic partner in both bilateral and multilateral formats. More than 900 joint ventures are successfully operating in Kazakhstan today.

"As before, we are determined to further deepen and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the United States on the whole agenda of wide-ranging interaction," Alikhan Smailov said.

As the Head of Government pointed out, last year the trade turnover between the countries increased by almost 40% and amounted to $3.1 billion. At the same time Kazakhstan sees a considerable potential for further increase in trade volumes and is ready to increase exports in 90 commodity items by $800 million.

At the same time, the U.S. is one of the leaders in terms of direct investment in Kazakhstan. Last year the inflow of U.S. investments almost doubled and exceeded $5.1 billion, which corresponds to pre-pandemic record levels.

In turn, Daniel Rosenblum emphasized that there is a great potential for further development of Kazakhstan-American relations based on common interests.

"We want to strengthen investment numbers and increase bilateral trade turnover. U.S. companies are interested in expanding their activities in Kazakhstan in various areas. It concerns the mining and smelting complex, agriculture, healthcare, information and communication and green technologies as well as the sphere of transport," Daniel Rosenblum said.

He added that about 20 American companies, representing a wide range of sectors, plan to form a business mission and visit Kazakhstan this summer.

At the end of the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to maintain active contacts in all mutually beneficial directions of cooperation.
