Alikhan Smailov holds meeting with Chevron management

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting with Nigel Hearne, Chevron’s Executive Vice President of Oil, Products and Gas (OPG), and Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration and Production.

The participants discussed the progress of future expansion and wellhead pressure management projects at Tengiz, measures to increase throughput capacity of the CPC pipeline system and employment, as well as current issues of Karachaganak field development.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reminded that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Tengizchevroil joint venture.

"Tengiz project is one of the most successful projects implemented in Kazakhstan since 1993. Over these years, Tengizchevroil has made a great contribution to the development of our country's economy. The government is focused on further effective cooperation," Alikhan Smailov said.

In turn, Chevron representatives confirmed their readiness to work on strengthening the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan in existing and prospective directions.

"It is a great honor for us to be one of the first major investors in the republic. Over the last 30 years we have worked tirelessly with our partners. We have brought our technical expertise, technological solutions and capital investment to the country, constantly working to improve performance. During that time, Tengizchevroil has made $176 billion in direct payments to Kazakhstani companies, including employee wages, purchase of local goods and services, taxes, etc. One of the aspects I am incredibly proud of is the investment in people. We have contributed to the training and professional development of the national workforce, built their capacity and capabilities. And today the Kazakhstani people occupy more than 90% of the positions in TCO," Nigel Hearne said.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev and Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas Magzum Mirzagaliyev.
