Ensuring the Safety of Children: District Inspectors and Criminal Investigators Assigned to Every School and College

First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Baurzhan Alenov reported at a Government session on the work being carried out to ensure the safety of children in connection with the start of the new school year.

He stated that inspections had been carried out at all educational facilities. Recommendations were made regarding road infrastructure. Near schools, pedestrian traffic lights, speed bumps, road signs and information panels, fences, and parking areas have been installed. In addition, from August 31 to September 9, the “Attention – Children!” preventive campaign will be conducted. The goal is to reduce child road traffic injuries.

“From September 1, patrols will be positioned as close as possible to educational organizations. District inspectors and criminal investigators have been assigned to every school and college. Lessons on the basics of safe behavior will be held in schools, and the Ministry of Education must ensure the possibility of organizing them,” Baurzhan Alenov added.

The First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also added that this year, 1,773 facilities have been inspected for anti-terrorism protection. As of today, 100% of educational organizations are equipped with video surveillance. However, only 81% are integrated with Operations Control Centers, including 75% of private institutions and 87% of public ones. Work in this direction will continue.

In addition, 96% of private and 99% of public educational organizations are equipped with panic buttons. It was noted that it is necessary to achieve full connection of panic buttons in educational organizations in the Almaty, Zhambyl, Turkistan regions and the city of Almaty.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that educational facilities with more than 700 students must employ licensed security services equipped with:

  • radio communication,

  • service weapons,

  • mobile rapid response teams.

“Currently, 98% of public facilities are guarded by such services. Overall, the Ministry will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of children,” Baurzhan Alenov concluded.
