Big joint work ahead – Alikhan Smailov on cooperation with Shell

Actual issues of cooperation in the oil and gas sector were discussed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Shell Exploration and Production Director Zoe Yunovich.

Within the framework of the meeting the issues of current development of Kashagan and Karachaganak fields, construction of new gas processing plants, compliance with environmental legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a number of others were discussed.

Prime Minister noted that the Government highly appreciates the company's contribution to the development of the oil and gas industry of the Republic and is committed to strengthening long-term cooperation.

"Shell is our strategic partner in the oil and gas sector. Much has been done and there is still a lot of joint work ahead," Alikhan Smailov said.

At the same time, he emphasized that safe operation of production facilities and compliance with all environmental requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan should be the main priorities in the company's work.

In turn, Zoe Yunovich confirmed Shell's focus on further mutually beneficial cooperation with Kazakhstan.

"We would like to remain a reliable partner of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Our cooperation has previously been fruitful and successful. We will have to work hard to make our partnership stronger in the future. We are ready to increase investment in Kazakhstan in the short term and explore new opportunities not only in oil but also in gas," she said.

At the end of the meeting indicated a willingness to continue a constructive dialog on all relevant issues of cooperation.
