Students to find employment during summer holidays through e-Labour Exchange

At the Government Session, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Svetlana Zhakupova, reported on the ongoing efforts to organize employment opportunities for schoolchildren during the summer holidays.

She noted that the number of schoolchildren aged 14 to 18, who are legally allowed to work under labor legislation, exceeds 1.4 million, including 26.5 thousand students with disabilities.

The largest number of such students is concentrated in the southern macro-region—specifically, in the Turkistan, Zhambyl, and Almaty regions, as well as in the city of Almaty.

According to the Ministry’s information systems, as of today, 24.3 thousand school-aged children are already employed. Most of them are engaged in the fields of trade, accommodation, and food services.

“To support student employment during the upcoming summer break, the following activities are being proposed: job matching through the Electronic Labor Exchange, online training, organization of public works, and career guidance,” Svetlana Zhakupova stated.

The Minister reported that a special section called “My Summer Holidays” has been launched on the enbek.kz Electronic Labor Exchange platform. This section allows students (both schoolchildren and university students) aged 14 and above to register, create a personal account, upload a resume, and search for suitable job vacancies. For students under the age of 16, registration and account creation must be carried out by legal guardians (parents or caretakers).

The platform offers an opportunity to gain first professional experience from the age of 14, develop digital employment-related skills, and conduct a safe job search while also building valuable work habits.

In addition, the Skills.Enbek platform offers a wide range of both free and paid courses in various fields, enabling students to acquire new skills and improve existing ones. The platform is continually being expanded with practical courses based on modern technologies. Currently, it features over 1,200 courses, including 322 free ones and 137 in the state language.

It was also noted that local executive bodies will continue the practice of organizing public works for high school students during the summer holidays.

Key features of public works for schoolchildren include:

  • the possibility of organizing part-time or flexible-schedule jobs;

  • economic, social, and environmental benefits for the region;

  • temporary employment opportunities for individuals without formal qualifications.

The monthly salary for such work is set at no less than 24 MCI (Monthly Calculation Index), which amounts to 94,368 tenge in 2025.

“To assist students in choosing a suitable career path, we have launched the ‘Mansap Kompasy’ (Career Compass) platform. It helps users understand their career interests through aptitude tests, access information about in-demand professions, and choose an educational institution. Our goal is to ensure equal access to job opportunities, including flexible employment options, so that schoolchildren can combine work with other summer activities,” Svetlana Zhakupova concluded.
