CNews: Main thing in success of digitalization — willingness for a change

On 2 February Almaty hosted the International EAEU Forum Digital Agenda in the Era of Globalization with participation of the Prime Ministers of the CIS countries, the Chairman of the EEC Collegium and international experts. The moderator of the plenary session – CNews Chief Editor, Maxim Kazak, shared his opinion.

Maxim Kazak noted in his speech that the CIS countries are successfully coping with the task of digitalization. According to the International Telecommunication Union, the CIS region ranks second in the world in terms of access to and the use of infocommunication technologies, second only to the Europe.

"Now we are at the stage when some information systems begin to unite in so-called digital platforms: branch and interbranch. This is a very important process. From a technological point of view, specialists already understand what and how to do," said Maxim Kazak.

At the same time, according to the moderator of the event, the CIS countries, like all countries in the world, faced fundamentally different challenges of a completely different meaning.

"It's about the fact that the technologies or entities that humanity has been using for hundreds or even thousands of years are beginning their cardinal transformation before our eyes. Private crypto-currencies test the strength of traditional money, to which we are all accustomed, and which for a thousand years only imitated the state. Robotics dramatically reduces the use of human labor in industry and poor countries that have sold their cheap labor for 30 years to rich countries begin to lose millions of jobs that return back to rich countries, not to people but to robots. A lot of similar examples related to blockchain, artificial intelligence and many other technologies can be given. Together, this has become a real challenge for our governments, but like any changes, it gives us new opportunities that we all must take the advantage of," said Maxim Kazak.

Summing up the discussion Maxim Kazak noted that "the meeting showed that we have the main thing for success — there is the willingness for a change."
