Yeraly Tugzhanov held a meeting with representatives of University of Arizona

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yeraly Tugzhanov met with representatives of the University of Arizona. The parties discussed the model of cooperation with Kozybayev North-Kazakhstan University. The meeting was held as part of the execution of the instructions of the Head of State to reformat the higher education system to the needs of the economy, including through the opening of branches of leading foreign universities.

It should be noted that the University of Arizona is a public research university with a 136-year history. According to the Carnegie classification of institutions of higher education, the university is classified as R1, that is, it is a university with a high level of research activity.

The University of Arizona is ranked 101-150 by the Shanghai Ranking, and 124 by Times Higher Education.

In 2021, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science, the University of Arizona and Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University.

The meeting also discussed the issues of transferring a Kazakhstani university to the trust management of the University of Arizona.

To increase the competitiveness of the regional university, the best practices of the University of Arizona in the educational process will be applied. Thus, within the framework of cooperation, educational programs will be developed according to the model of the University of Arizona.

Kazakhstani students will be given the opportunity to obtain a double diploma: a Kazakh university and the University of Arizona. Academic mobility programs will be actively developed.

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Education and Science and other authorized state bodies to carry out all the necessary organizational work and implement the first admission of students from the University of Arizona branch to the NKU in September this year.

It is planned to attract foreign professors, as well as leading domestic scientists. This will allow to carry out advanced scientific research and international projects on the basis of regional universities.

This initiative will contribute to the expansion of the internationalization of higher education and the formation of points of growth in the region.
