GE Healthcare plans to expand operations in Kazakhstan

Plans for the implementation of new investment projects of GE Healthcare in Kazakhstan were discussed by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and General Director of the company in Russia and CIS Elena Legezina.

The Head of Government noted that at present a number of major program documents for the development of health care in the Republic. Thus, under the national projects "A Healthy Nation" and "Modernization of Rural Health" it is planned to re-equip 32 district hospitals and build 655 new facilities for primary health care. In addition, by 2025 it is planned to increase the share of domestic pharmaceutical production to 50%, including in-demand medical equipment.

"Given the high reputation of GE Healthcare as one of the world's leading manufacturers of medical equipment, we support the implementation of new projects and are interested in deepening our partnership," the Prime Minister said.

In turn, Elena Legezina noted that the company sees great potential in the development of its activities in the republic. In particular, a project on localization of ultrasound machines and computer tomographs production in the Republic of Kazakhstan is currently being evaluated.

"We can bring to Kazakhstan not only high-tech equipment, but also concepts, approaches to treatment of oncological and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, we plan to open two academies - in Astana and Almaty, where Kazakh specialists will be trained not only to work with equipment, but also to master new methods of treatment," Elena Legezina said.

It was noted that GE Healthcare also plans to assist in the digitalization of the healthcare sector in the republic and to develop the localization of medical equipment service.

As a result of the meeting the parties agreed to work out a framework cooperation agreement which will enable to specify and consolidate cooperation plans for the medium-term period.
