In pursuance of the instruction of the Head of State on the development of national digital infrastructure and provision of modern telecommunication services to citizens, 10.4 billion tenge has been allocated from the Government reserve for the implementation of the project to create the space communication system KazSat-3R. The project is aimed at the development of national satellite communication and the telecommunications industry.

The corresponding resolution was signed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov.

The allocated funds will be directed to the creation of a new communication satellite KazSat-3R, which is to replace the current spacecraft KazSat-3. The planned service life of KazSat-3 ends in 2029, and the replacement spacecraft will ensure the continuity of the national satellite communication system.

The implementation of the project will ensure stable operation of satellite communication networks and television and radio broadcasting, as well as expand access to the Internet in sparsely populated and remote settlements. In addition, the level of information security will be increased and Kazakhstan’s technological sovereignty will be strengthened.

To date, the resources of the KazSat space communication system are used by the largest domestic communication operators and government structures. The system provides television and radio broadcasting services, data transmission, mobile communications, and Internet access. 19 communication operators and more than 2 million television broadcasting subscribers are connected to the system.

Systematic work is underway in Kazakhstan to improve the quality of telecommunication services. Among the results of the last two years is an increase in the share of the population with access to high-speed Internet to 99%. More than 4,500 rural settlements have been provided with access to high-speed Internet. Satellite technologies are used to provide communication to remote and hard-to-reach territories, thanks to which settlements where the construction of ground infrastructure is difficult also gain Internet access. Infrastructure development is ensured through the implementation of key projects, including the expansion of fiber-optic communication lines in rural areas, the “Last Mile” project, the development of 5G networks, providing mobile communication to highways, and the introduction of modern satellite solutions. At the same time, access to modern digital services is expanding: currently, over 90% of public services are provided in online format, own supercomputer capacities and a unified digital platform QazTech have been launched, creating the basis for the further development of artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

Thus, the creation of the KazSat-3R communication satellite and the implementation of new projects in the field of Earth remote sensing will ensure the further development of Kazakhstan’s space industry and the expansion of its technological capabilities.
