Kazakhstan and Qatar identify areas of cooperation in trade and standardization

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin and Minister of Trade and Industry of Qatar Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the official visit of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Kazakhstan.

The parties have confirmed the intentions of the two countries to promote the development and strengthening of cooperation in the field of trade on a mutually beneficial and equal basis. In particular, the document defines the development and promotion of exports of non-resource goods and services, improvement of trade infrastructure, development of exchange trade and e-commerce, promotion of dialogue between the public and private sectors, as well as cooperation of business communities, associations and business associations on issues of mutual interest.

"As measures to increase trade turnover, we consider it possible to diversify the structure of our exports. In the medium term we can increase exports of Kazakh processed products to Qatar up to $250 million, including agricultural products up to $68 million. We have a positive experience in supplying meat and by-products to the United Arab Emirates. We are ready to increase the export of meat and meat products to the Qatar market," Serik Zhumangarin said.

Also, in order to strengthen cooperation in the field of standardization, conformity assessment and metrology based on international principles and norms, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the General Organization for Standardization of Qatar.

Building a new quality infrastructure system in Kazakhstan, based on international standards and focused on the world's leading halal markets, is now one of the important tasks in trade with the UAE countries.

KazStandard was accredited by the International Accreditation Center of the UAE to certify halal products in September 2022 of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This will allow to realize the export potential of Kazakhstan and supply safe and quality products to the market of the Persian Gulf countries.
