As part of implementing the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Government is carrying out systematic work to strengthen the country’s transit potential. This is a strategically important direction aimed at securing Kazakhstan’s status as a key logistics hub between East and West, as well as towards Central and South Asia.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Kazakhstan’s railways are currently operating at the limit of their throughput capacity. Over the past five years, the total volume of transit has increased by 50%, and along the Trans-Caspian route — sixfold. Just last year, the volume of shipments from China to Europe rose by 62% and reached 4.5 million tons. At present, under the President’s instruction, large-scale work is being carried out to expand the capacity at the border with China.
“This year, we will complete the second track of the Dostyk–Moyinty railway line and the bypass around Almaty. Next year, we will develop the Darbaza–Maktaaral section. Moyinty–Kyzylzhar, Bakhty–Ayagoz — all of these will allow us, in the near future, to increase our capacity by up to 10 million tons. This is a very large undertaking that requires enormous investment, but we are pursuing it because we understand that we must not miss the competitive advantage we currently hold,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Attention is also being paid to the digitalization of transport processes. The implementation of the Digital Trade Corridor based on the TEZ Customs platform, which enables automatic registration and issuance of transit declarations, significantly speeds up customs procedures — reducing processing time from 3 hours to 30 minutes. This positively impacts the efficiency and timeliness of transit flows.
An important component is the development of port infrastructure. In June 2025, a container hub was launched at the seaport of Aktau, which will become a key part of the TITR (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) and increase container handling capacity.
Special attention is also being paid to the implementation of the “Center–West” corridor project, with a total length of 899 km along the Astana – Zhanteke – Egindykol – Arkalyk – Torgai – Yrgyz route. The project is scheduled for implementation in 2025–2029. The Prime Minister highlighted that more than 3,500 jobs will be created during the construction period, and over 1,000 units of equipment will be deployed. The project addresses the lack of roads on the “Egindykol–Arkalyk” and “Torgai–Yrgyz” sections, will provide direct access to the western regions, and will give a boost to the development of Arkalyk and the Torgai region.
