New package of measures to ensure food security to be implemented in Kazakhstan

Government developed a new package of measures to ensure food security. This year alone, it is planned to implement 285 investment projects in the agro-industrial complex. Comprehensive plan for import substitution of agricultural products for 2021-2023 is also being developed.

Meeting on the Roadmap for the implementation of the pre-election program of the Nur Otan party "Path of Changes: a Decent Life for Everyone!" was held in the Government under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.

In particular, a package of the most promising investment projects was considered, aimed mainly at import substitution and ensuring the country's food security, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the moment, work is already underway to implement the points of the document.

This year, the implementation of 285 investment projects in the agro-industrial complex will create about 7 thousand permanent new jobs in rural areas in accordance with the task set within the framework of the Nur Otan party's electoral program.

Most of the projects planned for implementation are aimed at import substitution of agricultural products: the construction of dairy farms, poultry farms, greenhouses, deep processing of agricultural products. In the first quarter of this year, 4 dairy farms with a production capacity of 11.5 thousand tons, 2 poultry farms for the production of poultry meat with a capacity of 7.5 thousand tons, 1 fruit storage for 1.5 thousand tons were put into operation.

In accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, work is being carried out to form 7 large ecosystems for the production and processing of meat, fruits, vegetables, sugar, cereals, oilseeds, and dairy products. This will attract local producers to participate in the development of the agro-industrial complex at all stages of the production process.

Noting that the issue of providing own food products under the special control of the Nur Otan party and the Government, Smailov instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, together with akimats, to ensure high-quality and timely adoption of measures for the implementation of investment projects in the agro-industrial complex. At the same time, it is necessary to achieve self-sufficiency indicators within the framework of the Roadmap for 2021 for: apples – 80%, fish – 75%, sausages – 70%, cheeses and cottage cheese – 70%, sugar – 65%, poultry meat – 75%.
