Incidence of coronavirus decreased by 20% over past two weeks in Kazakhstan

Tuesday, 18 May 2021, 13:04:46

At the government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country regarding COVID-19 was considered.

Minister of Healthcare Alexey Tsoy, who delivered the keynote speech, noted that the situation in terms of morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 in the world remains unstable. To date, more than 163 million cases of CVI have been registered in the world. More than 500 thousand cases are registered per day. More than 3.3 million people died, the mortality rate was 2.1%.

"Of the 221st country, Kazakhstan is in 105th place in terms of morbidity, and 106th in terms of mortality," Tsoy stated.

According to the Ministry of Healthcare, as of May 18, 362,030 patients with a positive result of COVID-19 and 54,153 cases with CVI- were registered in Kazakhstan.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is in the yellow zone.

By regions of the country, the situation is as follows:

- in the red zone are the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, West Kazakhstan, Akmola, Karaganda and Atyrau regions

- in the yellow zone there are 5 regions: Aktobe, Almaty, Pavlodar, Kostanay regions and Shymkent

- the rest 6 regions in the green zone.

According to the minister, at present, there is a positive trend in reducing the incidence and gradual stabilization of the epidemiological situation.

Over the past two weeks, compared with the previous two weeks, the incidence has decreased by 20%.

According to the daily monitoring of bed occupancy in the context of regions as of May 18 of this year. the employment of infectious beds in the republic is 36%, resuscitation beds — 28%. High employment of infectious beds is noted in the city of Nur-Sultan — 49% and in the Almaty region — 45%, intensive care beds in Nur-Sultan — 52%, and Almaty — 47%.

Also, according to the minister, there is a decrease in the number of patients being treated from 41 thousand as of May 10 to 38 thousand as of May 18. Including the number of patients on inpatient treatment decreased from 15 thousand to 13,800 people, on outpatient treatment from 26 thousand to 24,300 people.

Vaccination of the population against CVI continues.

“To date, 2.6 million doses of the vaccine have been used, of which 1,871,823 people have been vaccinated with 1 component. The second component covered 778,346 people,” Tsoy reported.

At the same time, amendments were made to the decree of the chief state sanitary doctor, allowing vaccination with the second component in the period from 21 to 90 days after receiving the first dose. Thus, citizens can receive a second dose from 21 days after the first dose.

“There is a sufficient number of vaccine doses in the vaccination centers: about 500 thousand of the first component and 750 thousand of the second component. Vaccine supplies are carried out according to the schedule,” the minister said.

As for production issues, as of May 14, the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex received a substance for the development of Sputnik V; at present, a phased production of 1 million 200 thousand doses of the vaccine is being carried out. By the end of the month, the delivery of the Kazakh vaccine KazVac, and HayatVac, produced in the UAE, is expected.

The Ministry of Healthcare also controls the situation regarding compliance with the requirements of the sanitary and epidemiological regime.

“In order to maintain a balance between the activities of business entities and the epidemiological situation, the Ashyq project has been launched in a pilot mode since Jan. 18, which has been scaled across the country since April 26,” Tsoy reported.

As of today, the Ashyq system, according to the minister, includes about 6 thousand objects of all spheres of activity, 1 million 400 thousand users are registered.

At the same time, since the introduction of Ashyq, 3,256 visitors with red and yellow statuses have been identified, of which 1,867 patients with a positive PCR test result and 1,389 contact persons.

Since May 12, in a pilot mode at the airports of Nur-Sultan cities and since May 21 in Almaty, the Ashyq application has also been used, which made it possible to identify 37 patients with a positive PCR test result and 37 contact persons.

These statistics show that, unfortunately, some citizens do not comply with the home isolation regime, they try to visit objects of mass gathering of the population, move within the country, thereby posing a threat of infection to other visitors and passengers on the plane.

“The implementation and scaling of the program continues,” Tsoy summed up.

In the Karaganda region, as of May 17, 2021, 28,222 cases of coronavirus infection were registered. The reproductive number is 1.16.

There are 4,899 infectious beds in the region, including 399 intensive care beds. The bed capacity is 34% and 19% of intensive care beds.

“The implementation of the operational plan for preparing for a new wave of coronavirus infection in 2020 made it possible to use as infectious hospitals only facilities that meet the standards of medical care for coronavirus, abandoning adapted premises,” said Kassymbek.

In hospitals and clinics, a three-month volume of medicines and personal protective equipment is provided.

According to the akim, the adopted anti-epidemic measures made it possible to prevent a rapid increase in the incidence. Thus, it was possible to avoid a sharp increase in the burden on the health care system in the region.

Restrictive measures made it possible to reduce the emergence of hotbeds in labor collectives, first of all, in strategic enterprises, while maintaining their usual mode of operation.

At present, according to the akim, home centers prevail in the region.

At the same time, the main load falls on the territory of Karaganda and satellite cities with more than 800 thousand inhabitants.

“By strengthening quarantine measures within the Karaganda agglomeration, we are able to avoid the spread of infection to other regions of the region,” said Kassymbek.

Also, according to the akim, the transfer of schoolchildren to distance learning mode has reduced the incidence rate by more than 50%.

As for vaccination, in the Karaganda region today 70,189 people are fully immunized, the first component covers 144,352 people. According to the approved deadline, by the end of May, vaccination of 105 thousand residents will be completed.

“We believe that the measures taken in the next two weeks will lead to the stabilization of the epidemiological situation,” said Kassymbek.
