In regions with high CVI incidence, there is a decrease in employment of infectious and intensive care beds — Alexey Tsoy

Tuesday, 22 June 2021, 10:42:08

Kazakhstan is in the yellow zone. This was announced by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alexey Tsoy at the government session chaired by the Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

According to Tsoy, more than 179 million cases of CVI have been registered in the world, more than 275 thousand cases are registered per day. More than 3.8 million people died, the mortality rate was 2.1%.

“As of June 22, 410,523 patients with a positive result of COVID-19 and 56,546 cases with CVI were registered in Kazakhstan. The Republic of Kazakhstan is in the yellow zone. The city of Nur-Sultan remains in the red zone. The rest of the regions are in the yellow and green zones,” the head of the Ministry of Healthcare said.

Over the past week, there has been an increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection by 4% and is associated with an increase of 40% compared to the previous week in the number of registered cases in Nur-Sultan. The employment of infectious beds in the republic as of June 22 is 25%, intensive care beds — 21%. In 7 regions, where there was a high incidence, there is a decrease in the employment of both infectious and intensive care beds.

Over the past month, the number of CVI + and CVI- cases registered per day decreased from 2,267 to 943 cases, or 2.4 times, the number of patients on inpatient treatment decreased by 2 times, on outpatient treatment — by 1.4 times.

“Based on the results of the PCR screening of positive laboratory samples obtained from patients with CVI, in the city of Nur-Sultan, the probability of a mutation characteristic of the Delta strain (Indian strain) was revealed. The Delta strain of coronavirus is highly contagious and 60% more infectious than the detected strains, it has a shorter incubation period of up to 7 days. Recent studies show that the Indian strain of coronavirus is associated with a higher likelihood of hospitalizations and deaths. At the same time, new clinical symptoms appeared — severe pain in the joints and abdomen, intestinal manifestations, hearing loss. According to the World Health Organization, the Delta strain SARS-CoV-2 has been identified in 74 countries of the world,” said Tsoy.

Taking into account the available data on the infectivity, severity of the course and the clinic characteristic of the "Indian" strain, the regions need to ensure an adequate supply of medicines, consumables for ventilation equipment, personal protective equipment, a reserve bed fund, as well as the readiness of the ambulance service and mobile teams to provide medical care for patients with CVI.

The minister also reported that vaccination of the population continues in the country. About 4.5 million doses of the vaccine were used, of which 2,809,449 people were vaccinated with the first component, which is 28.4% of the subject population. The second component covered 1,715,750 people.

Today, vaccination centers have a sufficient number of vaccine doses: 1.1 million doses of the first component and 1.4 million doses of the second component. Delivery continues on schedule. Vaccination coverage with 1 component below the national average is noted in Mangystau, Kostanay, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan, Aktobe and Akmola, Karaganda, Zhambyl, Almaty regions.

“Taking into account the established circulation of the“ Indian ”strain on the territory of the republic, in order to maintain a stable epidemiological situation in the regions, local executive bodies need to increase the rate of vaccination and strengthen information and explanatory work among the population about the need for accelerated vaccination and compliance with the main preventive measures: mask regime, social distance” said Minister Tsoy.
