Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov took part in the national forum “The Working Person – The Pride of the Nation” dedicated to Labour Day. On behalf of the Head of State, he presented state awards to representatives of working professions who contributed to the strengthening and development of Kazakhstan’s economy.
In his address to the forum participants, the Prime Minister emphasized that the principle defined by the President at the National Kurultai – “An Honest Person – Honest Work – Honest Income” – has become one of the main guidelines for the development of Kazakhstani society.
Labour Day has been celebrated in Kazakhstan for more than 10 years. In the Year of Working Professions, the holiday has gained special significance, symbolizing deep respect for all citizens whose diligent work is the foundation of the country’s development. Today, around 2.5 million specialists work in Kazakhstan, including miners, metallurgists, teachers, energy specialists, medical workers, builders, agronomists, engineers, and many others.
The Government is taking measures to support workers: improving and automating production conditions, reforming technical education, updating professional standards, and strengthening the link between science and industry.
An important step in creating favorable conditions for workers was the launch, on the initiative of the President, of the special “Nauryz Zhumysker” program through Otbasy Bank. Under this program, more than 2,000 families have improved their housing conditions this year alone.
Special attention was also paid to the development of digital technologies in Kazakhstan.
“The Head of State sees Kazakhstan’s future in innovative development and, in his Address, prioritizes large-scale digitalization and the active introduction of artificial intelligence. New technologies are coming to the forefront, opening broad opportunities for economic growth and improving the quality of life of citizens. Innovative solutions are being implemented in industry, transport, healthcare, education, and many other fields. All efforts are aimed at building a strong Digital Kazakhstan,” Olzhas Bektenov stressed.
Considering the Government’s work towards digital progress, focus is also placed on workforce training and the development of vocational and technical education. This year, 100% of 9th grade graduates were provided free education in colleges in in-demand specialties such as geology, mechanical engineering, energy, transport, IT, and more. Student scholarships have doubled in the past two years. Colleges have upgraded their material and technical base, and about 90% of students are now provided with dormitories.
The Government is also creating opportunities for citizens to acquire new skills and increase competitiveness. Across the regions, cooperation between educational institutions and production facilities is being strengthened. The number of enterprises mentoring colleges has increased eightfold, while the number of dual training agreements with businesses has doubled.
ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo addressed the forum participants via video message, highlighting the importance of representative organizations of employers and workers, which play a key role in ensuring social dialogue and promoting inclusive and sustainable labor market development. He noted the particular importance of continuing joint work to strengthen this dialogue and determine further steps.
The Chairman of the Presidium of the National Confederation of Employers PARYZ, Zhumabek Zhanykulov, also delivered remarks.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Prime Minister visited an exhibition showcasing the work of Kazakhstani industrial enterprises in introducing advanced technologies into production. The leadership of QARMET, Kazakhmys, Kazzinc, and ERG presented projects on producing metallurgical products for high-tech industries, implementing production monitoring systems, creating digital models of processing plants, and more. These business initiatives aim at “smart” process management, maximum efficiency, and training skilled personnel through support for colleges and the establishment of modern classrooms and workshops.
At the conclusion of the forum, state awards were presented to representatives of working professions.
