Production of electronics industry of Kazakhstan to increase 8.5 times over 3 years

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin chaired a meeting on the development of the electronics industry.

There are 64 enterprises producing electronic products in Kazakhstan. The number of employees in the industry is 1.6 thousand people. In 2019, the volume of production of electronic products amounted to 44.5 billion tenge, having increased by 35% by 2018. At the same time, the share of local content of these products, taking into account total imports (about 1 trillion tenge), is only 4%.

In the field of the electronic industry, new types of products are produced today: printed circuit boards (JSC Plant named after Kirov), telecommunications equipment (LLP Digital System Servise), electronic meters for water, heat and electricity, modules for wireless data transmission (Saiman Corporation LLP, Orion-System LLP and others), computers (JSC Kirov Plant, PS4U LLP, etc.), digital video cameras (NPO Perspektiva, LLP NG Vision), radio stations (LLP RTS Engineering).

In order to stimulate further growth of domestic content in the electronics industry, additional measures of state support will be taken by increasing offtake contracts with domestic manufacturers, introducing preferential loans for the purchase of domestically assembled computers through retail chains, allocating funds for R&D in the electronics industry, etc.

A goal has been set of bring the average annual production of the electronics industry by 2024 to 382.6 billion tenge (an increase of 8.5 times), the volume of exports – up to 45 billion tenge, the share of local content in purchases of the state and quasi-public sectors – up to 30% and 20%, respectively. Over 60 thousand new jobs will be created with an average annual growth of 28 thousand people.

The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the implementation of the task set by the Head of State in the Address to the people of Kazakhstan to eliminate digital inequality and provide children from socially vulnerable families with computer technology. So, by the end of 2020, 9 domestic manufacturers will produce and supply to schools in the country an additional 606 thousand computers (351 thousand computers and 255 thousand laptops). By 2024, the domestic production of computer equipment will be increased 5 times to 165 billion tenge.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Mussin, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Beibut Atamkulov, Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov, Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov, heads of other ministries and departments, as well as Chair of the Board of JSC Kazakhtelecom Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev.
