Olzhas Bektenov Holds Meeting with ExxonMobil Vice President Peter Larden on Oil and Gas Cooperation

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with Peter Larden, Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil. The discussion focused on cooperation in the oil and gas sector, infrastructure development plans, the introduction of advanced technologies, and the potential expansion of joint activities across various areas.

During the meeting, particular attention was given to the current status and implementation progress of key joint projects, including the Tengiz and Kashagan oil fields, as well as the continued operation of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system. The launch of the Future Growth Project at Tengiz was especially noted, as it is expected to strengthen Kazakhstan's position on the global energy market.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to intensify efforts to increase the share of local content in the procurement of goods, works, and services under the Tengiz project, where the localization level for goods remains insufficient.

The parties also discussed the development stages of the Kashagan field, including preparations for Phase 2A, which is expected to boost production volumes and includes the construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 2.5 billion m³ per year. The importance of accelerating decision-making for the implementation of Phase 2B was underscored. Since the project’s launch, approximately 906 million barrels of oil and 75 billion m³ of gas have been produced, with total recoverable reserves estimated at around 15.885 billion barrels of oil and 1.4 trillion m³ of gas.

In addition, the meeting addressed the need to ensure stable and uninterrupted operation of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which plays a key role in transporting Kazakh oil to international markets.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to open and constructive dialogue aimed at strengthening the partnership and advancing major investment projects.
