Work has already begun on laying the second tracks of the Dostyk-Moyinty railway section, the Almaty bypass railway line, the new railway lines Darbaza-Maktaaral and Bakhty-Ayagoz. Implementation of these projects will increase the throughput capacity of Dostyk station up to 35 million tonnes per year, reduce the time of cargo passing through Almaty station, unload Saryagash station and increase the throughput capacity in the direction of China up to 20 million tonnes. Also, in order to ensure uninterrupted transportations and increase the capacity of main railways, it is planned to repair 11 thousand kilometres of railway sections by 2029, of which more than 2.8 thousand kilometres of track have already been repaired.
Special attention is paid to the development of motorways. Work is underway on construction and reconstruction of roads with a record coverage of 12,000 kilometres, of which 7,000 kilometres will be completed this year. To improve the efficiency of road transport, it is planned to modernise 36 checkpoints on the internal border of the EAEU by 2029. The first stage includes 6 points, the construction of which will begin in 2025.
According to the Ministry of Transport, as a result of the measures taken, exports by rail will reach 130 million tonnes, while imports and transit will increase by 60 and 65% respectively. As for road transport, exports and imports are expected to grow by 2 times, while transit is expected to grow by 6 times.
