Government reviews fire safety issues in the country

At the government session chaired by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, the issues of ensuring fire safety in the country were considered.

Minister for Emergency Situations Yuri Ilyin, akim of Kostanay Region Arkhimed Mukhambetov, Pavlodar Region — Abylkair Skakov presented their reports.

For 8 months of 2021, 7,515 fires were registered in Kazakhstan, which is 7.8% less than the same period last year. 251 people died (+20.6%), 217 people were injured in varying severity (+18.5%). Material damage from fires amounted to 6.5 billion tenge (+90.6%). The greatest number of fires occurs in the residential sector (58%) and in transport (18.5%).

On behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a roadmap for ensuring fire safety was developed.

The document will provide issues of the modern equipment of fire posts, the development of voluntary fire-prevention formations, improving social guarantees and benefits by voluntary firefighters, strengthening fire safety requirements to commissioning facilities with a mass stay of people, residential and high-rise buildings.

The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Emergency Situations in conjunction with interested state agencies until Oct. 20, 2021, to prepare and add a coherent project of a roadmap to ensure fire safety.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations in conjunction with the akimats are entrusted to strengthen preventive work with the population on fire safety during the heating season.

The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development in conjunction with the akimats of the regions is given an instruction to ensure systemic control and tightening requirements for the safety of gas equipment and household cylinders.
