Presidential Initiative “Taza Qazaqstan”: Olzhas Bektenov Takes Part in “Moldir Bulak” Campaign in Turkestan Region

As part of the Presidential initiative “Taza Qazaqstan,” Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov took part in activities to clean and improve the “Ak-Ata” spring in the village of Akbulak in the Sairam district of the Turkestan region.

Together with local residents and activists, work was carried out to clean the spring source, improve the surrounding area, and plant tree saplings. The total area of the spring territory is 3.5 hectares, and the historical period of the source dates back to the 17th–18th centuries.

Deputy Akim of the Turkestan region Nurbol Turashbekov reported that, overall, it is planned to clean approximately 1,500 springs across the region in the near future.

In general, the large-scale environmental campaign “Moldir Bulak” was launched on March 23 of the current year. At the first stage, cleaning and improvement works will cover 29 springs in six regions of the country — Turkestan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Almaty regions, Zhetisu region and the city of Shymkent. The second stage is scheduled for April of the current year and will take place in the remaining regions. Works include spring capping, cleaning and improvement of springs, cleaning of adjacent territories, waste removal, as well as activities aimed at increasing environmental awareness and water literacy among the population. To date, more than 3,800 people have been involved in environmental activities. Particular attention is paid to the participation of youth, which contributes to the formation of environmental culture, careful attitude to water resources and the involvement of the younger generation in environmental protection activities.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, work on the conservation and rational use of water resources is carried out on a systematic basis. Springs are considered as an additional source of water supply in conditions of water scarcity. The National Hydrogeological Service “Kazhydrogeology” is conducting an inventory of springs: according to preliminary data, 711 potential springs have been identified, and based on archival materials, a map of 2,772 springs has been compiled.

Overall, the implementation of environmental initiatives is aimed at preserving natural water sources, increasing environmental awareness among the population and promoting a careful attitude to water resources.

“The initiative of the Head of State on a careful attitude toward nature, with the support of citizens, has received proper legal consolidation at the constitutional level. The state sets the goal of protecting the environment that is favorable for human life and health. The “Taza Qazaqstan” activities have become a nationwide movement, uniting the efforts of society and the state. This is an example of effective constructive patriotism. Today, the campaign is not limited only to clean-up activities and tree planting. “Moldir Bulak” is expanding its scope, covering natural springs and water bodies, and raising the importance of rational use of water resources to the level of broad public awareness,” Olzhas Bektenov emphasized.
