Decision on revaccination and its timing expected in the near future

A briefing was held in the press center of the government on the implementation of the Address of the Head of State ’’Unity of People and Systemic Reforms — Solid Foundation for the Country's Prosperity’’. Minister of Healthcare Alexey Tsoy spoke about the progress of vaccination and preparation for revaccination.

According to the minister, at present, the revaccination against CVI is under discussion with the study of world experience and the position of international organizations — WHO, CDS.

“Now the question of revaccination is facing all countries of the world. A separate working group of leading scientists, clinicians, doctors and employees of the sanitary and epidemiological service has been created in Kazakhstan. We have requested information from leading international agencies, WHO and other organizations, and all the experience gained at the moment is being summarized,” Tsoy said.

To date, at the world level, there are no clear criteria for the interval between the course of vaccination and revaccination, which population groups are subject to revaccination. This issue was considered at a meeting of the Advisory Commission on Immunization of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is an advisory body of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In the near future, it is expected that a decision will be made on the tactics of revaccination with the determination of the timing of the start of immunization and the subject of contingents.

“Since revaccination against COVID-19 is completely new, which is now in the world. After we summarize all the data, literally in the near future after the conclusion of the advisory commission under the Ministry of Health on immunization of the population, a group of experts will give an opinion, we will definitely inform you. In terms of the readiness of medical facilities, we have full readiness, all vaccination points are ready, doctors are trained, and after a decision is made, the whole country will work in a full-fledged mode,” concluded Tsoy.

For reference: According to preliminary data, revaccination will be carried out 9 months after the second dose. At the same time, revaccination will first of all be offered to contingents from vulnerable groups of the population.

“From Feb. 1 to the end of August 2021, our number of vaccinated citizens who died was 482, which is about 5% of the total number of deaths from coronavirus infection. It is very important to understand that the overwhelming majority of the deceased were not vaccinated,” Tsoy said.
