Duisenova: ensuring children safety on roads should be kept under constant control

Issues of safety of road infrastructure around educational facilities were discussed at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tamara Duisenova. It was attended by Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs, Education, Culture and Information. 

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha informed that since the beginning of the year there have been more than 3.4 thousand traffic accidents involving minors. 

The bodies of internal affairs together with interested organizations have carried out surveys of the adjacent territories to educational facilities to ensure that the organization of road traffic complies with safety requirements. Some 21,000 facilities were covered by the measures. Schools, kindergartens and organizations of additional education.

It should be noted that there are positive changes in this direction. Since the beginning of the year more than 1.4 thousand crosswalks, more than 2.5 thousand artificial bumps and 5 thousand road signs have been installed at educational facilities.

At the same time, a number of objects have revealed violations. Somewhere there are not enough crosswalks, artificial bumps, in other cases there are problems with lighting.

"According to the results of the conducted inspections, road and utility organizations were issued more than 3 thousand prescriptions to eliminate the identified shortcomings. About 140 officials of these organizations were brought to administrative responsibility. After the inspections 211 crosswalks have been arranged, 518 road signs have been installed," the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs reported.

The Ministry of Education together with interested state bodies has developed an action plan to ensure the safety of road infrastructure adjacent to educational organizations. Deputy Minister Yedil Ospan said that the document contains measures to explain traffic rules to schoolchildren, develop safe routes, conduct information campaigns and others.

"This issue concerns the health and life of our children. Therefore, all concerned state bodies need to keep it under constant control. Akimats of the regions should already now provide the necessary financial resources to start work on road improvement with the beginning of the construction season. Information and awareness-raising work on compliance with traffic rules should be strengthened. It should be actively conducted in educational institutions, social networks and mass media," Tamara Duisenova emphasized.
