Trade Volume for the Half-Year Reached 36.2 Trillion Tenge – Ministry of Trade and Integration

Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Shakkaliyev reported on the development of the trade sector in the republic at a Government session.

He reported that according to the results of the first half of the current year, steady growth in trade was ensured. The physical volume index amounted to 105.7%, the trade volume reached 36.2 trillion tenge, which is 15.3% higher than the same period last year. Wholesale trade grew by 6.6%, retail trade — by 3.8%.

“By the end of the year, the forecast volume of sales for these goods should be at least 40 trillion tenge. To fulfill this indicator, the key task remains to increase the volume of domestic production,” Arman Shakkaliyev emphasized.

It was noted that more than 70% of the trade turnover falls on five regions – the cities of Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Atyrau and Karaganda regions. The highest growth rates were provided by the Pavlodar region – 125.3%, North Kazakhstan – 121.8%, Turkestan – 121.4%, and the city of Shymkent – 121.8%.

To maintain positive dynamics, a set of systemic measures for the development of domestic trade is being implemented. The implementation of state support measures for the development of trade infrastructure continues. To date, 978 projects have been financed in the amount of 10 billion tenge. There are over 2 thousand applications in the queue, which confirms the high demand from business.

At the same time, support for domestic producers is being strengthened. Together with retail chains, shelf space for Kazakhstani products is being expanded. A Catalog of Domestic Products is being formed, synchronized with the Register of Domestic Producers. Together with the akimats, control over unproductive intermediaries has been strengthened and timing of goods movement at markets has been introduced.

Positive dynamics are also maintained for non-resource exports. According to the results of the first half of the year, the volume of exports of non-resource goods and services increased by 14.6% and amounted to $14.9 billion.

7 trade and economic missions were conducted with the participation of more than 150 domestic companies. As a result, export contracts were signed for more than $700 million.

“Through the Export Credit Agency, financial support was provided in the amount of over 400 billion tenge. By the end of the year, it is planned to increase the capacity of insurance support to 1.2 trillion tenge. A new tool for promoting Kazakhstani products to the shelves of foreign retail chains will also be launched. The Ministry is carrying out systematic work to ensure trade growth and achieve planned targets,” Arman Shakkaliyev concluded.
