Government Reviews Price Situation for Socially Significant Food Products in the Regions

Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin, the Government reviewed the price situation for socially significant food products.

The average price growth index since the beginning of February has reached 0.5%, which is twice as low as during the same period last year (1%).

As part of implementing the instructions of the Head of State to stabilize inflation, it was decided at weekly meetings to conduct targeted reviews of regions showing the highest price growth. Since the beginning of the year, these regions include Mangystau Region (2% growth in socially significant food products) and Turkistan Region (1.4%).

In Mangystau Region, the highest price increases were recorded for tomatoes, bone-in beef, kefir, butter, potatoes, and several other products.

It was noted that the region has large enterprises producing fermented dairy products, processing meat, and manufacturing flour and bread, but lacks its own vegetable producers. The main drivers of price growth are complex logistics, insufficient domestic food production, and high dependence on imports. In addition, the release of vegetable stocks from stabilization funds has been progressing at an insufficient pace.

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed that a detailed analysis of the causes of price increases among key regional producers be conducted and that measures be developed jointly with the Trade Committee and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy to stabilize the situation.

In Turkistan Region, the average price growth index is lower than in Mangystau. The region is home to major producers of chicken eggs, dairy products, vegetables, and meat.

During the meeting, the need of poultry and egg producers for discounted flour for feed was highlighted, which would help reduce production costs and stabilize prices.

The Vice Prime Minister instructed the Food Contract Corporation to supply the region with grain at a reduced price in the required volumes.

“Each week, we will conduct targeted reviews of regions where price growth is recorded. The Trade Committee must promptly analyze the situation — from supply channels to the sale of each socially significant product — to identify the stage at which price increases occur and determine necessary measures at the central level. Regions are required to promptly identify the causes of price growth and take appropriate decisions,” Serik Zhumangarin stated.

Following the meeting, the Vice Prime Minister instructed all regions to release all vegetable stocks from stabilization funds by the end of March, and the Ministry of Trade and Integration to ensure the supply of early vegetables starting from the second half of March.
