The main events of the week from Feb. 10 to 15, 2020

  • On Feb. 11, a meeting of the Security Council was chaired by the First President of Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the situation in the Korday district of the Zhambyl region, the issues of ensuring biological safety and countering the spread of coronavirus infection were considered. Opening the meeting, Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his condolences to the families of those who died as a result of the events in the Korday district and wished a speedy recovery to all the victims.
  • On the same day, at the regular meeting of the Government, the results of socio-economic development and implementation of the republican budget for January 2020, as well as measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan, were considered. The Head of Government pointed out the need to strengthen efforts to attract investment, develop small and medium-sized businesses, increase labor productivity and real incomes of the population. Askar Mamin also instructed to maintain close contact with the Kazakhstanis in the PRC and provide the assistance they needed.
  • The prime minister took part in an extraordinary session of the maslikhat of the Zhambyl region, where the candidacy of Berdibek Saparbayev proposed by the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the post of akim of the region was unanimously supported. At a meeting with the activists of the Zhambyl region, the prime minister noted the contribution of Askar Myrzakhmetov to the development of the region and thanked for the work done as the head of the region. The Head of the Government introduced the new akim of Zhambyl region — Berdibek Saparbayev.
  • As part of a working trip to Shymkent, Askar Mamin held a meeting on the development of the city. The meeting addressed the implementation of the comprehensive plan for the development and development of Shymkent for 2019-2023, the socio-economic situation, infrastructure construction, the issue of electricity and gas supply, investment projects, as well as the willingness to conduct activities as part of the city becoming a cultural capital in 2020 CIS. During the working trip, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan familiarized himself with the construction of the new passenger terminal of the international airport, visited the Ontustyk SEZ, the sewing and spinning and weaving mills, and also inspected the progress of the Shymkent Settlement (Citadel) restoration and museumification project.
  • During a working trip to Turkistan, Askar Mamin inspected the progress of infrastructure construction, where he examined the construction sites of administrative, historical, cultural, and social buildings. The prime minister visited the schoolchildren’s palace, examined the building of departments, the congress hall, the school’s palace with a swimming pool, the 7,000-seat stadium, the schoolchildren’s palace, the Kazakh drama theater, and the city park with attractions. Askar Mamin also inspected the construction site of the historical and cultural center being built, the Uly Dala Eli Center, and the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi Museum, the building of the National Center for Artisans of the Great Silk Road, a visit center, the regional scientific and universal library, the construction of hotel and tourist facilities.
  • On Thursday, the Head of the Government received the WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge. The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and WHO, including in the framework of the fight against coronavirus, primary healthcare, digitalization of healthcare, the introduction of CAHI, emergency medicine, etc.
  • Askar Mamin received a delegation on Friday led by the Minister of Commerce and Industry of the State of Qatar, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari. The Head of the Government noted the existence of significant potential for enhancing cooperation between Kazakhstan and Qatar in trade, economic, investment, financial and banking, agricultural and other fields.
  • Askar Mamin chaired a meeting of the National Commission for Modernization with the participation of the Chair of the Majilis of the Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin, where the results of work in 2019 were summarized and the main issues for the current year were considered. The Head of the Government instructed to continue active work on the full and high-quality implementation of the Plan of the Nation and the Address of the President dated Sep. 2, 2019.
