All Cross-Border Hubs Are Provided with Transport Infrastructure – Ministry of Transport

At the session of the Government, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Sauranbayev reported on the transport infrastructure support for cross-border hubs.

He noted that, as of today, all cross-border hubs are provided with transport infrastructure. In particular, for the International Centre for Industrial Cooperation “Central Asia,” construction continues on the new Darbaza – Maktaaral railway line, which will be completed in 2026. The project connects the Maktaaral district with the main railway network, with a capacity of 20 million tonnes per year. The State Revenue Committee has completed the modernisation of the “Atameken” automobile checkpoint this year. Medium repairs of the access road to the checkpoint have also been completed. The Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Centre is being connected to the railway network via the Poima station, which will be commissioned next year.

Reconstruction of the “Podstepnoe – Fedorovka” highway is underway, with a total length of 144 km. Of this, 72 km will be completed this year using the republican budget, and the remaining 72 km in 2026. In 2026, work will begin on the modernisation of the Taskala automobile checkpoint, with completion scheduled for 2027.

In the Khorgos direction, the railway section “Altynkol – Zhetygen” is being modernised. The project will increase the capacity of the section to 25 million tonnes. All work will be completed in 2026. Medium repairs of the bypass road at the “Nur Zholy” automobile checkpoint are also underway and will be completed by the end of the year.

Within the Caspian cluster, large-scale work is being carried out to modernise the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk. The first phase of the container hub in the Aktau port, implemented jointly with the Chinese company Lianyungang, will be completed by the end of the year. Once the full project is implemented, the hub’s capacity will reach 200,000 TEU per year. Additional projects are underway at the Aktau port involving dredging of the port’s water area and modernisation of berths.

“In the Kuryk port, a project for constructing the multifunctional Sarzha terminal is being implemented. To increase container transportation across the Caspian Sea, two vessels with a capacity of 700 containers each are planned to be purchased from Azerbaijan by 2027. Work is also underway to increase the capacity of the railway line leading to the ports. The implementation of these projects will allow the capacity of the Aktau and Kuryk ports to increase to 30 million tonnes,” Nurlan Sauranbayev stated.

In addition, according to the Ministry, major and medium repairs are being carried out on the highways connecting the city of Zhanaozen with Turkmenistan. The completion date is 2026. The International Transport and Logistics Complex (Zhambyl region, on the border with Kyrgyzstan) is located along the “Western Europe – Western China” corridor. Medium repairs of the Karasu – Masanchi – Sarytobe highway are underway and will be completed in 2026. Modernisation of the Karasu – Ak-Tilek automobile checkpoint will begin next year. As part of this project, the construction of an additional bridge over the Shu River using investor funds is being considered.

“The transport infrastructure of the country is fully prepared to ensure the stable operation of cross-border hubs,” Nurlan Sauranbayev concluded.
