Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting on the implementation of the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to enhance the protection of medical workers and improve safety in healthcare institutions.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, Ministers of Health Akmaral Alnazarova, Internal Affairs Yerzhan Sadenov, and Deputy Minister of Justice Laura Mersalimova.
According to the Ministry of Health, since 2019, more than 170 incidents of attacks on doctors, paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare workers have been registered in Kazakhstan.
According to Akmaral Alnazarova, work has begun on preparing a number of legislative amendments that will equate attacks on medical workers to assaults on law enforcement officers, as well as the implementation of smart video badges, comprehensive security systems in hospitals, and the placement of round-the-clock police posts in emergency departments.
Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of medical workers.
“It is necessary to ensure the execution of the instruction of the Head of State. Such incidents involving attacks on medical workers must be strictly suppressed through legal means. In this regard, I instruct the Ministries of Health, Internal Affairs, and Justice to develop and submit legislative amendments within ten days providing for criminal penalties for acts of violence against medical workers in the performance of their official duties,” the Prime Minister stated.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, round-the-clock police posts have been established in the emergency rooms of hospitals and perinatal centers. A total of 115 healthcare facilities are under protection. In order to respond promptly to incidents, patrol routes have been brought closer to the designated institutions. At present, certain measures to ensure safety in medical institutions have already been taken.
In addition, it was instructed to strengthen preventive and explanatory work among the population.
