Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov reported on the results of the development of the oil and gas, coal, and electric power industries of the country for the first half of 2026 at a Government session.
According to him, during the reporting period, the volume of oil production amounted to 45.7 million tons, or 91.6% compared to the same period last year. Currently, the ministry is conducting negotiations with major subsoil users on taking measures to increase production volumes. In order to compensate for previously reduced volumes, the scheduled preventive maintenance at the Kashagan field was postponed, which will allow compensating up to 2 million tons of oil. To date, the overall country losses have been reduced from 4.9 million tons to 3.3 million tons.
According to forecasts, by the end of 2026, the volume of oil production should amount to 98 million tons. The volume of oil refining for six months was recorded at 8.98 million tons, or 97.9% of the figure for the first half of 2025, with an annual forecast of 18.2 million tons.
“In the gas industry, during the reporting period, 31.4 billion m³ of gas was produced, and the production of commercial gas amounted to 12.2 billion m³. The forecast for the current year has been approved at 64.5 billion m³ of production and 27.5 billion m³ of commercial gas production, respectively. One of the priority tasks of the ministry is the commissioning of new infrastructure projects. At the end of this year, it is planned to complete the construction of the linear part of the first stage of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent main gas pipeline. In the future, this will allow expanding the gas transport infrastructure and ensuring sustainable gas supply to the regions,” Yerlan Akkenzhenov noted.
According to the Minister, a steadily high dynamics is recorded in the coal industry. For January-June, the volume of coal production amounted to 58.9 million tons, or 112.4% of the actual figure for 2025, while the annual forecast is 128.9 million tons. Coal exports for four months reached 10.1 million tons, demonstrating growth at the level of 104.1% compared to the same period last year. By the end of the year, this indicator is planned to be brought to 33.2 million tons.
A separate area is the development of electric power. In six months, 63.4 billion kWh of electricity was generated in the country, which is 101.9% of the actual figure for 2025. The forecast for the entire 2026 is 126.5 billion kWh. Yerlan Akkenzhenov emphasized that to reduce the electricity deficit this year, it is planned to commission about 2.66 GW of energy capacities. This refers to projects for the modernization of Almaty CHP-2 and CHP-3, the construction of a CCGT in the Turkestan region, the commissioning of turbo unit No. 11 and the installation of boiler No. 15 at the Atyrau CHP, as well as the commissioning of three waste heat boilers and a steam turbine with a generator at the Tekeli energy complex.
#Energy #Oil & Gas“Parallel to this, the commissioning of renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 245.8 MW is planned this year. To date, a 240 MW combined-cycle gas turbine plant in the Kyzylorda region and seven renewable energy projects with a capacity of 212.6 MW have already been successfully commissioned. During the reporting period, electricity generation from renewable energy facilities amounted to 5.1 billion kWh, which is 21.2% higher than the same period last year. By the end of the year, we plan to bring this indicator to 8.8 billion kWh,” the Minister emphasized.
