A Government meeting on the spread of infectious diseases was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva. A separate agenda item addressed the spread of measles.
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, measles incidence decreased by 85% last year compared to 2024. At the same time, since the beginning of the year, 1,951 measles cases have been registered. The highest incidence rates have been recorded in the cities of Astana and Almaty, as well as in Zhambyl and Atyrau regions. It was noted that the majority of cases involve children under the age of five, with unvaccinated children prevailing among those infected, including cases linked to vaccination refusals.
Reports were also heard from deputy akims of regions with high measles incidence.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need for daily analysis of the measles epidemiological situation within regional headquarters under akimats and highlighted the personal responsibility of local officials.
The issue of preventive vaccination coverage was also reviewed separately. In a number of regions, target indicators have not been achieved, particularly in Mangystau region, where coverage has not been reached for all major types of vaccines. It was stressed that such gaps create conditions for the spread of infections and require strengthened targeted work at the primary healthcare level.
Following the meeting, Aida Balayeva instructed that the measles epidemiological situation be placed under special control and that information and awareness efforts among the population regarding the importance of immunization be intensified, particularly in Mangystau region.
