Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev held an official meeting with the Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), a member of the Coordination Commission of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles Andreas Zaglis, who arrived in Kazakhstan by special invitation.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabasynov and President of the Kazakhstan Basketball Federation Abay Alpamyssov.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of basketball in Kazakhstan and in the international arena. In particular, they discussed the possibilities of implementing in Kazakhstan FIBA Plus programme, aimed at increasing the capacity of national federations. The initiative will be implemented jointly with the National Basketball Federation of Kazakhstan.
This meeting is an important step in the implementation of the instruction of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to intensify cooperation with international sports organisations. During the meeting with the medalists of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the President set a task to improve the competitiveness of Kazakhstani athletes and to organise international competitions in the country.
In this regard, Kazakhstan is conducting a constant and systematic dialogue with the international sports community. President of the International Judo Federation Marius Wieser, President of the International Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Jaloud Al-Shammari, President of the International Water Sports Federation Hussein Al-Musallam, and President of the United World of Wrestling (UWW) Nenad Lalovic have already visited the Republic. During their visits, they familiarised themselves with the country's sporting infrastructure and discussed strengthening the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan.
Now Kazakhstan is beginning to receive representatives of team, game sports. Thus, the day before the country visited the Secretary General of FIBA Andreas Zaglis, and in the coming days is expected to visit UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.
This indicates the deepening of Kazakhstan's ties with the international sports community. The Government of Kazakhstan will continue systematic work to strengthen the potential of domestic sport and raise its profile on the world stage through high-level negotiations and strategic cooperation.
