Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov took part in a gala event organized at Nazarbayev University in honor of Shigeo Katsu's resignation as president of the university.

In his speech Alikhan Smailov noted that the task set 13 years ago by the Government to provide Kazakhstan students with high quality education of the world level in the homeland has been successfully fulfilled.

"Today Nazarbayev University is rightfully considered the pride of Kazakhstan. Its structure includes 7 schools that train personnel in Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs. An innovation cluster with 26 companies has been created. 270 research laboratories are functioning, where advanced researches are conducted according to world standards, and students' works are published in the best academic publications," Prime Minister announced.

He added that the university has also launched more than 200 start-up projects and received 125 patents for scientific inventions. In addition, it has created an advanced medical cluster, which includes the University Medical Center, School of Medicine and the National Laboratory.

"The University was able to create an academic environment unique for Kazakhstan, in which students learn to think critically, apply their knowledge effectively, and solve life problems creatively," Alikhan Smailov noted.

At the same time he reminded that the strategic partners of the National University are 10 leading foreign universities and research centers, including Cambridge University, Duke University, National University of Singapore and others. At the same time Nazarbayev University is one of the founders of the Alliance of Asian Universities.
