Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations Kegen Tursynbayev reported at a Government meeting on the work being carried out to ensure children’s safety at water bodies.
He noted that the summer period is traditionally accompanied by increased activity of children at water bodies, recreation areas, tourist routes, and places of mass gathering. In this regard, issues of prevention and risk mitigation are under special control of the Ministry.
A set of measures is being implemented jointly with interested state bodies and local executive bodies. First of all, inspections and commission surveys of the readiness of children’s summer camps and recreation areas are being conducted. 32 commission surveys have been carried out together with the akimats.
Special attention is paid to compliance with fire safety requirements, ensuring the operability of warning and evacuation systems, as well as the readiness of personnel to act in emergency situations.
Measures to ensure safety at water bodies have also been strengthened. To ensure prompt response in rescuing citizens, the construction and equipping of rescue units is actively underway. Over the past two years, 8 rescue stations have been built at water bodies. Another 5 are planned to be built by the end of next year. The material and technical equipping of rescuers is being gradually improved. Modern high-speed boats and equipment are being purchased. During the year, training for children in swimming skills and first aid is conducted jointly with akimats.
It was noted that during the summer period, interested state bodies need to strengthen prevention among parents and children. Currently, mobile posts have been deployed at water bodies, patrolling of mass recreation areas is organized, raid measures are carried out, and steps are taken to identify and suppress cases of children being in potentially dangerous places without adult supervision.
“Akimats must continue work on creating designated places for swimming. Information and awareness-raising work among the population has been intensified. Through educational organizations, digital platforms, mass media, and social networks, rules for safe behavior at home, on water, in the natural environment, and in emergency situations are being communicated. All forces and means of the Ministry are ready to fulfill the tasks of ensuring the safety of the population,” Kegen Tursynbayev concluded.
