Olzhas Bektenov Holds Meeting on Ensuring Economic Growth

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting on the implementation of the Head of State’s instructions to ensure sustainable economic growth with an emphasis on diversification.

Current indicators of economic sector development were reviewed. Reports were delivered by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin, Ministers of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev, Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Industry and Construction Yersaiyn Nagaspayev, Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov, and Finance Madi Takiyev.

According to the Ministry of National Economy, economic growth for the first five months reached 3.7%. Growth in the manufacturing industry amounted to 9%. Production volume in mechanical engineering increased by 22.2%. More than 81,000 motor vehicles were produced in the country from January to May. Growth was also recorded in the chemical industry — by 17.8% and in the production of construction materials — by 18.7%. In agriculture, the physical volume index stood at 103.6%. Attention was paid to the fuel and energy complex.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen work on the implementation of investment projects, the timely launch of new productions, and the effective use of available growth reserves. Ministers were instructed to take all necessary measures to achieve the required growth rates. The Head of the Government assigned personal responsibility to the first heads of state bodies for achieving the planned physical volume indices by the end of the first half of the year.
