Olzhas Bektenov learns about measures to ensure labor employment of Atyrau region residents

Head of the Government Olzhas Bektenov during his working trip to Atyrau region on the example of APEC PetroTechnic Higher College familiarized himself with the training of highly qualified specialists for the country's economy.

Prime Minister during his visit to the college inspected laboratories and training grounds, where oil and gas specialists are trained.

The college realizes educational services with the application of the best world practices and the use of modern equipment. The educational process is built with a focus on new educational programs. The content of each of them is developed taking into account international standards and best international practices, as well as the requirements of Kazakhstani and foreign oil and gas companies. Students are taught in English, which is the main language used in the oil and gas industry today.

Olzhas Bektenov was informed about the high demand for the personnel trained here. Thus, today the employment rate of APEC PetroTechnic graduates exceeds 90%, and for three years the dynamics has been significantly improved. While in 2022 92.2% of graduates were employed, this year this indicator has reached 97.5%. In total, since 2013, the college has trained over 2,790 specialists, who now successfully apply their knowledge in major oil and gas, oilfield services, energy and IT companies. Among them are such giants as Tengizchevroil, North Caspian Operating Company N.V., KazMunaiGas, KEGOC, Chevron, British Petroleum and others.

In addition, APEC PetroTechnic is a participant in an important social project being implemented in the country to retrain employees of the Tengiz Field Future Expansion Project, who are gradually released due to the completion of construction. In total, since 2019, more than 2.5 thousand people have been trained in 11 labor specialties in accredited educational institutions (including about 350 residents of Zhylyoi district). After taking special courses in specialized training, 80 per cent were employed in permanent jobs.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, Akimat of Atyrau region and "Tengizchevroil" LLP have developed and approved the Road Map for 2024, within the framework of which 94 people have already started training in demanded specialties since the beginning of the year. A total of 250 people are planned to be trained this year. International certificate will give them the opportunity for successful employment and further work in oil and gas companies in the region.

Head of the Government stressed the importance of increasing the demand for domestic personnel and reducing the need for foreign labor.

"Educational institutions should build long-term partnerships with potential employers. APEC PetroTechnic College is one of such institutions. There should be more such institutions in our country, as they give a powerful impetus to the development of the educational environment as a whole, allow to train highly qualified specialists with the skills needed by the market and able to freely enter the world market," Olzhas Bektenov said.

There are 772 colleges in Kazakhstan, where more than 528 thousand students study. To date, 518 enterprises of the country patronize 410 colleges. Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Education to analyze the current situation and consider issues on increasing the number of similar institutions in other regions.
