Olzhas Bektenov: The State Should Not and Will Not Support Those Who Are Able to Work and Provide for Themselves

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, during a meeting of the Senate, commented on a question from Deputy Sultanbek Makezhanov regarding the optimization of budget expenditures.

Olzhas Bektenov reported that, as part of the formation of the budget for the upcoming three-year period, baseline expenditures were reduced from 15% to 12%. At the same time, a significant burden on the budget remains in the social sphere. According to the Prime Minister, social benefits and various support measures account for about 60% of the total volume of the state budget.

“In the republican budget, for a long time these expenditures amounted to more than 40%. When forming the three-year budget, we managed to reduce this figure to 38%, but there is still a large margin for improvement. And we will continue this work. Social support from the state will be provided only to citizens who, for various objective reasons, do not have the ability to work and provide for themselves. A person who is able to work must work. The state should not and will not support such a person,” Olzhas Bektenov noted.
