People and business communities of EAEU countries to feel concrete benefits from integration — Alikhan Smailov

Plans for further development of integration processes in the EAEU were discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Tsakhkadzor with the participation of the heads of government of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

As part of his speech, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov reminded that the decade since the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union is approaching. During this time, a complex work has been done on the formation of the legal framework, setting up common regimes for regulating foreign trade and creating a seamless internal trade.

According to the head of the Government, thanks to common efforts, the Union continues to unlock its potential, which proves the effectiveness of Eurasian integration.

"Relations between our countries on a wide range of issues are dynamically developing in the spirit of mutual respect and support. Economic cooperation remains a pillar," he said.

At the same time, Alikhan Smailov emphasized that it is necessary to strictly follow the goals and objectives set when the Union was formed. And it is extremely important that the peoples and business communities of the EAEU countries feel the concrete benefits of integration.

It is for this reason that the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in May this year about the need for a comprehensive analysis of EAEU law.

"It will reflect the main results and achievements of the Union, as well as specific recommendations for further integration development. The Commission has already started preparing the Report. We hope that it will be detailed and objective, with specific reasons for the non-realization of certain agreements," Alikhan Smailov said.

Prime Minister also added that a clear understanding of the current situation is needed to plan new horizons of integration.

"The Eurasian Economic Union is going through a stage of maturation. We believe it is necessary not to get carried away by dragging new spheres into integration. Such a practice can lead to the creation of a "colossus on clay feet". It is the Report that will allow us to determine the current state of affairs in the Union, work on mistakes and outline the contours of development of economic integration in the near future," he noted.

As Alikhan Smailov emphasized, Kazakhstan sees the development of the Eurasian economic project, which is based on economic pragmatism. In this regard, the republic has prepared its draft Declaration, reflecting the ways of further development of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Thus, Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening industry and agro-industrial complex through the implementation of mutually beneficial cooperation projects, strengthening transport and logistics cooperation and the creation of a common financial market. In addition, Kazakhstan emphasizes the importance of the development of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the institution of observer states, as well as cooperation with interested foreign countries.

In conclusion, Prime Minister noted that a sustainable basis is needed to make a qualitative economic breakthrough.

"Kazakhstan is determined to work actively in the search for new sources of growth, strengthening our relationship and addressing common economic challenges. I am confident that through joint efforts we will bring the Eurasian Economic Union to a higher trajectory of qualitative development," Alikhan Smailov concluded.
