Measures taken stabilized epidemiological situation in the country — Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin

The epidemiological situation in the country was considered at the government conference call chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

Minister of Healthcare Alexey Tsoy reported that the timely measures taken had stabilized the situation with regard to the coronavirus. The daily increase in coronavirus infection and viral pneumonia varies within 0.5%. Recovered at the moment 94% of all infected, the workload of infectious diseases hospitals is 15%. Ambulance calls on coronavirus infection have been reduced to 80%.

The issues of increasing hospital beds to 50 thousand are being worked out. 12 infectious diseases hospitals are being built in the regions and 2 hospitals are being reconstructed.

Work is underway to ensure the availability of medical care in rural areas. Ambulances, buses, all necessary equipment (ventilators, oxygen concentrators) are being purchased. In regional hospitals, 132 X-ray machines have been installed. Until Oct. 1, 2020, an additional 100 mobile medical complexes will be purchased.

The country has formed a stock of personal protective equipment and medicines — there will be no shortage. Moreover, since August this year, the population has been provided with free medicines (antipyretic, anticoagulants) for the treatment of viral infections on an outpatient basis.

The PCR testing has been increased (up to 40 thousand per day, up to 63 thousand is possible). Negotiations were held on the purchase and production of our own vaccine. From Sep. 15, vaccination of the population against influenza begins.

“In general, the government is carrying out systematic work. As a result, we were able to successfully overcome the most difficult period and reduce the incidence rate. The main thing is that our healthcare sector has gained extensive experience in treating coronavirus patients. All measures taken will help to cope with a possible new wave of coronavirus and seasonal illnesses. At the same time, strict sanitary rules must be observed,” Mamin said.

The head of government noted that, given the instability of the epidemic in the world, work should continue to prepare for a possible new wave of the virus and temporarily maintain some restrictive measures (distance education, lockdowns on weekends).

The prime minister instructed the akims of the regions to keep the epidemiological situation on the ground under special control, strictly observe all sanitary standards, promptly and point-wise to respond to any changes in the reproductive rates of the virus and morbidity, take measures to prepare infrastructure and ensure the safety of health workers at all levels.

The Ministry of Healthcare, together with interested government agencies, was instructed to strengthen preventive and informational and explanatory work among the population.

“It is necessary to keep under control the readiness of the health care system, as well as to ensure accurate monitoring of the risk group,” Mamin said.
