At the Government session chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, the Minister of Agriculture reported on the progress of harvesting and food production in the country. According to him, the harvesting campaign across the republic is ahead of last year’s pace, facilitated by favorable weather conditions and preferential financing provided by the Government. To date, 15.5 million tons of grain have been threshed from 10.2 million hectares.
“The grain harvest forecast is estimated at 24 million tons, which will fully meet the domestic demand for food grain, feed, and seed material, as well as maintain export volumes. This year, a record harvest of oilseeds is also expected – about 4 million tons,” the Minister said.
The head of the Ministry added that export potential will be supported by the extension of subsidies for transportation costs of grain to seaports.
As of today, the following has been harvested:
oilseeds – 700 thousand tons,
vegetables – 2.9 million tons,
melons – 2.2 million tons,
potatoes – 1.8 million tons.
The field price of potatoes is 90–120 tenge per kg, onions – 50–60 tenge, carrots – 85–95 tenge.
To ensure uninterrupted operations, an extensive fleet of equipment has been mobilized: 139,000 tractors, 31,000 grain harvesters, 17,000 reapers, and 130,000 other units of machinery, including more than 4,200 high-tech John Deere and CLAAS harvesters.
Regarding state support measures, the Minister reported that 700 billion tenge were allocated for preferential financing of spring fieldwork and harvesting, of which 502 billion have been disbursed. In addition, under the “Damu” Fund, a guarantee program is being implemented covering 85% of the loan amount for farmers with insufficient collateral. By order of the Head of State, early financing of spring fieldwork for 2026 will be launched in November.
“The total grain storage capacity in the republic amounts to 30.7 million tons, including 13.3 million tons at licensed grain-receiving enterprises and 17.4 million tons at agricultural producers. A total of 3.1 million tons of grain from the new harvest has already been delivered to licensed facilities, which is twice the figure for the same period last year. Of the soft wheat received, 60% has been classified as third class, 28% as fourth class, and 12% as fifth class or non-standard,” the Minister noted.
Concerning the domestic market, it was emphasized that the country fully provides itself with basic food products. The gross harvest of rice is forecast to exceed 500 thousand tons, and buckwheat – around 90 thousand tons, which will fully cover internal needs. In livestock farming, 100% self-sufficiency has been achieved in meat (beef, mutton, horse meat), dairy products, and eggs. Self-sufficiency in poultry meat has reached 82%. To ensure stable supplies in the off-season, more than 100 billion tenge have been allocated in the regions for financing under the “revolving scheme.”
