On 11 July this year First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar held a meeting with the CEO of the American company Wabtec (Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) Rafael Santana.
The company is one of the world leaders in the field of transport and logistics (included in the Fortune 500 list).
During the discussion Roman Sklyar noted the work carried out by the Government to develop the railway industry, including the renewal of the rolling stock fleet. Separately, the parties discussed the company's plans to produce new generation "green" locomotives in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, First Deputy Prime Minister thanked the American side for the establishment of the Wabtec Engineering Centre on the basis of JSC "Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty" (Astana).
Rafael Santana assured that the Centre will work on the production of locomotives on alternative energy sources (LNG, hydrogen and batteries), as well as improving the repair and maintenance of locomotives produced in Kazakhstan and used in other countries (Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova).
Following the meeting, Roman Sklyar gave a number of instructions to state bodies and organisations to work on the initiatives of the American company.
