Sinopec interested in participating in new oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan

Issues of implementation of new projects in the oil and gas sector were discussed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and President of Sinopec Yu Baotsai.

Head of the Government stressed that with the direct participation of Sinopec a number of significant projects have been completed in the country, including modernization of the Atyrau Refinery.

He also reminded that in his recent Address to the Nation, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to form a strong industrial framework of the country. In particular, the task of accelerated development of oil and gas chemical industries was set.

"In this regard, the "anchor" project "Polyethylene" is an important stage in the development of the oil and gas chemical industry, and its implementation will have a multiplier effect on the country's economy. Taking into account that Sinopec is one of the world leaders in the field of petrochemicals, the issue of the company's entry into the project as an equal partner is of strategic importance," Alikhan Smailov said.

At the same time it was noted that Sinopec is considering participation in other promising projects in Kazakhstan.

In turn, the head of Sinopec noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the energy sector today is developing rapidly. In turn, it makes a significant contribution to the well-being of the peoples of the two countries.

Sinopec President also took the initiative to organize a professional internship for Kazakh specialists in the oil and gas industry.
