Alatau City Roadshow Investment Roundtable Held in Hong Kong

As part of an official visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev met with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, John Lee. The parties discussed the current state and future prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong, as well as opportunities to expand collaboration in the financial, technological, and innovation sectors.

Continuing the business programme of the visit, Kanat Bozumbayev and John Lee participated in the Alatau City Roadshow investment roundtable, which brought together representatives of leading investment funds, financial institutions, technology companies, and business associations from Hong Kong.
Participants were presented with the investment potential of Alatau City – a new centreof economic growth being developed on the instruction of the Head of State. The presentation also highlighted the opportunities provided under the special legal regime, government support measures for investors, and strategic areas of cooperation in the fields of financial, the digital technologies, artificial intelligence, the Web3 industry, and innovative urban infrastructure.

Addressing the participants of the event, Kanat Bozumbayev noted that Kazakhstan views Hong Kong as one of Asia’s leading international financial centres and an important platform for attracting investment, technologies, and expertise. Particular attention was given to the prospects for participation by Hong Kong companies and financial institutions in the implementation of projects in Alatau City.


“Hong Kong occupies a unique position in the global financial system and remains one of the world’s key platforms for international investment, capital management, and cross-border projects. That is why it is important for us to present the Alatau City project to Hong Kong’s investment and business community. For the first time in Kazakhstan’s history, a city with a special legal regime is being established, reflecting in many ways the approaches applied in Hong Kong, with an emphasis on transparent rules, investor protection, and the best international regulatory standards,” Kanat Bozumbayev stated.


For his part, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee emphasized his interest in expanding the partnership and expressed support for strengthening direct ties between the business communities of the two sides.


“Kazakhstan’s economy is demonstrating steady growth of 6.5%. I have personally witnessed the country’s dynamic development and high level of business activity. The ongoing reforms, openness, and favourableattitude toward investors create unique opportunities for further cooperation. We are committed to using this positive momentum to strengthen our partnership ties,” he noted.

As part of the roundtable, 6 agreements and memorandums of cooperation were signed between Alatau City Authority and leading corporations in the fields of digital technologies and innovation. Particular interest in Alatau City investment opportunities was expressed by ANT Digital Technologies the leading fintech company which includes the Alipay digital ecosystem. In addition, Solana Foundation – one of the world’s leading organisations in the field of Web3 technologies and digital assets – expressed its intention to participate in Alatau City projects at an early stage. The agreement provides for cooperation in developing the innovation ecosystem of Alatau City, implementing advanced digital solutions, supporting technology start-ups, and training specialists in blockchain technologies. During the visit, a memorandum was signed between Dasco Capital and Templewater on the joint establishment of a private equity fund to invest in the economies of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Projects in Alatau City will be among the priority investment directions of the new fund.

A separate event within the programme was a meeting between Kanat Bozumbayev and leading business figures of Hong Kong — senior executives and representatives of Henderson Land, Far East Consortium, Sunwah Group, Bosera Asset Management and other major investment funds, financial institutions, and corporations in the region. International investors expressed their readiness to establish partnerships and participate in joint projects in Alatau City.


The working visit of the Kazakh delegation to Hong Kong marked an important milestone in promoting the investment potential of Alatau City on the international stage. The agreements reached create additional opportunities for attracting investment, technologies, and international partners for the implementation of strategic projects in Alatau City.
