Kazakhstan Actively Introduces AI Solutions into Production Processes

At the Government session, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Nurlan Zhakupov reported on the ongoing work to introduce digital solutions and apply artificial intelligence technologies in the Fund’s operations.

He noted that in 2025 a unified IT standard was approved across the Samruk-Kazyna group of companies, defining requirements for the architecture of digital solutions and the use of artificial intelligence technologies. A Roadmap for the implementation of AI solutions in the production processes of the Fund’s companies has also been approved.

“In order to increase the level of digital maturity, an assessment methodology has been approved that allows determining the current level of digitalization of portfolio companies. Across the Fund’s group, 239,000 employees have been trained in basic artificial intelligence skills,” Nurlan Zhakupov reported.

He also added that Samruk-Kazyna JSC is developing a unified corporate AI ecosystem — SKAI (Samruk-Kazyna Artificial Intelligence). One of the modules of the SKAI ecosystem is the centralized platform SKAI Data, which provides real-time access to the production and financial indicators of companies. Currently, KazMunayGas, QazaqGaz, KEGOC, and Samruk-Energy are connected to SKAI Data, and during 2026 it is planned to connect the remaining portfolio companies of the Fund.

Work is underway to introduce AI assistants in seven key areas, including:

  • Human resources (HR);

  • Procurement activities;

  • Finance;

  • Investments;

  • Social policy;

  • Occupational safety;

  • Legal support.

All AI agents will be integrated into a single SKAI assistant, operating on a “single window” principle. In 2025, these services were launched at the Fund’s corporate center. From 2026, the services will be rolled out across the Fund’s portfolio companies.

It was noted that Samruk-Kazyna JSC is currently implementing 62 AI-based projects. The primary focus of these projects is the application of AI in production processes. The expected cumulative effect from implementation over five years exceeds $1.3 billion. For 2026, all portfolio companies have been assigned a KPI to increase EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) by 5% through the use of AI. Within two years, it is planned to transition to a model in which 70% of management decisions will be made with the participation of artificial intelligence.

For example, KazMunayGas JSC is implementing the ABAI project, in which AI addresses reservoir flooding management tasks and provides recommendations for maintaining reservoir pressure to achieve additional oil production. The projected economic effect of the project for the period 2025–2030 is approximately 326 billion tenge. An AI model for forecasting deficits and surpluses of petroleum products is also being implemented, ensuring accurate balance calculations and stable regional supply across Kazakhstan. The expected economic effect of this solution amounts to 22.5 billion tenge.

In the energy sector, systems for predictive detection of defects are being introduced at GRES-1 and AlES to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. The projected economic effect of this project for 2026–2030 is approximately 36 billion tenge.

In addition, based on its own meteorological service, an artificial intelligence system is being implemented to forecast renewable energy generation. AI projects of Samruk-Kazyna JSC are implemented within a closed circuit on the proprietary supercomputer Al FARABIUM. This infrastructure, operated by Kazakhtelecom, is one of the most advanced in the region and ranks among the top 200 supercomputers worldwide, holding 103rd place globally. Currently, 25% of the computing capacity is used by the Samruk-Kazyna group, while the remaining 75% is leased to commercial customers, including those abroad.

“This confirms the high level of demand, reliability, and practical applicability of this platform,” Nurlan Zhakupov emphasized.
