Year of Vocational Professions: Republican Youth Rally Kicks Off in Akmola Region

The Republican Rally of students from technical and vocational education institutions has commenced in Shchuchinsk. More than 100 active and promising young people from all regions of the country gathered to discuss the future of vocational professions, enhance their skills, and gain inspiration for the future. The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev, Akmola Region Akim Marat Akhmetzhanov, Members of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and others.

Deputy Prime Minister Yermek Kosherbayev welcomed the participants and highlighted the vital role of vocational professions in the country’s development:

"The Head of State has declared 2025 the Year of Vocational Professions. This is not merely about training personnel for a specific sector, but about rethinking the role of professions on which the entire economy of the country depends. For a long time, vocational jobs were viewed through stereotypes. But today, the situation has changed. A worker is now a modern, highly qualified specialist, proficient in technology and in demand in the labor market. As a state, we are doing everything to restore the deserved respect for labor because without it, industrial development, production modernization, and economic sustainability are impossible. At the heart of this transformation are you — young professionals," Yermek Kosherbayev said.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,000 career guidance counselors have been trained, 352 specialized classes have been opened in schools, and 1,300 school students have already acquired basic vocational skills. The number of sponsoring enterprises has increased sevenfold, and the number of dual agreements with companies has doubled. The material and technical base of 185 colleges has been updated, and dormitory coverage for students has reached 96%.

Starting from September 1, the per capita funding for technical and vocational education institutions will be doubled — from 437,000 tenge to 912,000 tenge per student.

"Today, the labor market values not only diplomas but also real skills. Kazakhstan's technical and vocational education system is reaching a new level. We are launching 10 international projects with partners from China, France, Turkey, Japan, the United Kingdom, Georgia, and other countries. For the first time, international certification of colleges has begun. Now our students can validate their competencies according to global standards, gain access to foreign internships, employment, and the global labor market," Gani Beisembayev said to the participants.

Among the attendees was Ayala Baibolat, a third-year student of the Zhambyl Polytechnic Higher College. She is studying on a state grant, and her college was one of the first to join the internationalization project.

"When the President declared the Year of Vocational Professions, we realized that our work truly matters. Today, colleges are a conscious and promising choice. We are getting modern workshops, international internships, and most importantly — real opportunities. Thank you for your trust!" the student said.

The rally will run until July 24. Over the three days, the youth will participate in motivational meetings, master classes, interactive educational blocks, team challenges, as well as a rich cultural and sports program.

It is worth noting that there are 772 colleges in Kazakhstan, with over 550,000 students enrolled.
