Grain-growing regions recommended to carry out sowing campaign earlier than usual in Kazakhstan

Hot and dry weather is expected in most regions of Kazakhstan, with the exception of the grain belt, foothill areas, and the extreme south, where precipitation is forecast to remain within the climatic norm. This was announced by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Yerlan Nyssanbayev, during the Government session.

He noted that this winter was warm and snowy across most of the country, which created favorable conditions for soil moisture. In the sowing areas of the northern and central regions, moisture reserves are generally satisfactory and optimal.

"However, the hot April contributed to active evaporation, leading to rapid moisture loss. As a result, soil moisture reserves in the West Kazakhstan region are expected to be insufficient during the sowing period. It is recommended that sowing work in grain-producing regions be carried out earlier than the climatic dates," Yerlan Nyssanbayev emphasized.

The minister also reported that the month of May is expected to be hot and dry across most of the country. However, in the grain belt, foothill regions, and the extreme south, precipitation levels are forecast to be close to the climatic norm.

Drought conditions may develop in the southern part of the Kostanay region, the southwestern half of West Kazakhstan and Mangystau regions, the northwestern part of Kyzylorda, the northern areas of Almaty and Zhambyl regions, the southern part of Karaganda, as well as certain areas of Aktobe, Atyrau, Abai, and Turkistan regions.

In June, average monthly air temperatures across most of Kazakhstan are expected to be within normal ranges—between 17–20°C in the north and center, and 23–25°C in the west.

In the southwest and extreme south, temperatures will be hotter than usual, averaging 24–28°C on the plains, with maximum air temperatures reaching up to 45°C.

Precipitation in the west and northeast of the country will remain within the norm, while in other regions it is expected to be mostly below normal levels.

In July, according to long-term forecasts, air temperatures are expected to remain within normal ranges, while in the east and southeast they will be about 1°C above the climatic norm. Precipitation is generally forecast to be within multi-year norms, although in the extreme northwest, north, south, and southeast, precipitation levels are expected to be above average.

According to preliminary forecasts, August and September are expected to be favorable for crop formation and harvesting. No heavy or prolonged rainfall is anticipated, and average monthly air temperatures across most of the country are projected to be 1°C above the climatic norm.

"The preliminary summer forecast will be further specified and supplemented with monthly forecasts and communicated to all relevant state agencies and the public," Yerlan Nyssanbayev concluded.
