Almaty Superski Project Transitions to Practical Implementation Stage: Board of Directors Adopts Series of Decisions

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd. on the development of the Almaty Mountain Cluster.

A report was presented by the Chief Executive Officer of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd. Yerzhan Yerkinbayev on the current status of the Almaty Superski project.

A number of decisions were adopted on the design and construction of key facilities. In particular, leading international companies were selected through an open tender for the construction of cableways, the design of building structures, and other works. Thus, the Almaty Superski project is moving from the preparatory stage to practical implementation.

To select a contractor for the comprehensive works, including the construction of 11 cableways, an open tender was held among cableway manufacturers. Independent oversight was provided by international consultants PGI, Hill International, and DCSA.

The French company POMA, one of the world leaders in the design, production, and operation of cable systems, was selected for the construction of 11 modern cableways. The company has been operating since 1936 and has implemented about 8,000 projects in 90 countries worldwide. Its technological solutions are used at leading ski resorts and in urban transport networks around the world, meeting the highest international standards in safety, reliability, and environmental sustainability. The Almaty Superski project includes cableways of various types, including 3S gondolas, 10-seater gondola lifts, and chairlifts.

The project provides for the use of modern wooden structures, an important element of the concept developed by the international architectural bureau Foster + Partners. To ensure the quality of design and production of structures, a decision was made to cooperate with StructureCraft (Canada) — one of the world’s leading companies in mass timber engineering solutions, with extensive experience in implementing unique projects worldwide.

To consolidate project management for the preparation and subsequent implementation of construction, Hill International (USA) was engaged, which will ensure coordination of design, construction, adherence to schedules, and more.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed to ensure strict control over timelines and design quality, compliance with international safety standards, and environmental responsibility. The implementation of the Almaty Superski project will unlock the potential of the mountain cluster, give a significant impetus to the development of the tourism industry, and have a broad multiplier effect on the service sector and related industries. The priority is the creation of accessible and safe tourism infrastructure for city residents and guests.

According to the approved schedule, construction works have already begun at the site. The launch of the Almaty Superski ski resort is planned for December 2028.
