During a working trip to the Akmola Region, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the implementation of the President’s instructions on the modernization of transport infrastructure, given in the Address to the Nation and at the extended Government session, using the reconstruction of the Kokshetau railway station as an example.
Olzhas Bektenov emphasized that the Head of State pays increased attention to the development of the country’s transport system. Kazakhstan is carrying out systematic modernization of railway stations with a focus on modern technologies, safety, and convenience for citizens. Measures are being taken for large-scale renovation of station complexes with the expansion of their capacity and improvement of passenger service quality.
Managing Director for Construction of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC Marat Iskaliyev reported to the Prime Minister on the progress of the modernization of the Kokshetau railway station. The building was constructed in 1981, and the last major renovation was carried out more than 20 years ago. Construction and installation works have been completed by 93%, with interior finishing, installation, and equipment setup currently underway. The key task is not only the use of modern materials, replacement of engineering networks, and upgrading of technical equipment, but also the preservation of the historical appearance of the building. Special attention has been given to the installation of equipment necessary for creating an inclusive environment.
In total, 16 railway stations in the Akmola Region are undergoing modernization, which is the largest number in the country. Seven of them are currently under reconstruction, with readiness already reaching 90%. Another nine stations are planned for complete demolition followed by the construction of new buildings. Alongside Kokshetau, work is currently underway at the stations Atbasar, Makinka, Kurort Borovoe, Akkol, Yereymentau, Yesil, Zhaksy, Zhaltyr, Derzhavinsk, Shortandy, and others.
Across Kazakhstan, a high level of progress in the modernization of station complexes and railway infrastructure has been recorded in the Akmola, Almaty, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan, and Zhambyl Regions, as well as in the Zhetysu and Ulytau Regions. In addition, reconstruction is also being carried out at major railway hubs such as Astana-1 and Almaty-1 stations. By the end of the year, all 124 railway stations across the country will be modernized.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Transport, together with the regional administration and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, to ensure strict control over compliance with deadlines and the quality of construction works, taking into account the needs of residents and visitors of the settlements.
