As part of the digital transformation of the gas industry, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Kanysh Tuleushin noted that the main work is to improve the efficiency and safety of gas production and supply processes, as well as to optimise data-driven management and decision-making. He emphasised that the implementation of these goals will make the industry more technologically advanced, transparent and risk-resistant.
The gas industry provides 74 types of state services with sub-species, which indicates a wide palette of services that have already been fully digitised for the convenience of citizens and businesses.
For example, the Social Wallet system allows citizens to activate a voucher by entering their personal account number, which automatically deducts a discount in the QazaqGaz Aimaq system. This, he said, simplifies and speeds up the payment process, as well as provides benefits such as automatic accrual of vouchers and receipt of discounted receipts. Kanysh Tuleushin noted that 6,000 vouchers have already been activated in the pilot regions.
He also said that together with the Ministry of Energy and QazaqGaz Aimaq the process of obtaining technical specifications has been significantly simplified due to the transition to digital platforms eGov and eGov-mobile. The Minister noted that applicants can now apply online, which has reduced the number of steps by 81 per cent and the number of incoming documents by 63 per cent. He said the annual coverage is more than 2.3 million subscribers and about 100,000 applications.
Kanysh Tuleushin said that work is underway to introduce an AI-agent, which will help citizens when making and submitting applications for technical conditions. He noted that thanks to the AI-agent is expected to reduce errors in applications from 30% to 5%, which will improve quality and speed up the process of consideration. The implementation of this project is planned for 2025-2026 and will cover more than 2.3 million subscribers.
At the same time, Astana Hub is already implementing 14 projects related to the gas industry. These include virtual field simulators with AI analytics, compressor monitoring systems, digital twins, UAVs for inspection and business process automation platforms. He noted that for 2024, the total revenue was N1.2bn and N3.8bn since inception. About 100 jobs have also been created.
Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, drones and robotic systems are used globally. He gave the example that the Netherlands and the UAE are actively using drones and digital twins, while Canada and the US are using IoT and sensor networks to monitor pipelines and equipment. MarketsandMarkets forecasts that the AI market in the gas industry will grow to around $4-5bn by 2030.
The Minister stressed that, based on Kazakhstani and global practices, it is recommended to actively implement AI and digital twins to improve efficiency and reduce accident rates, to develop the integration of IoT and sensor systems to monitor the state of infrastructure, and to continue the digitalisation of processes through AI agents and automated services to improve the quality of service for citizens and businesses.
