Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, during a briefing following the Government meeting, answered a question regarding the provision of infrastructure to the regions.
“This issue is at the center of our attention. First of all, in order to eliminate interregional disparities in access to infrastructure, accelerate economic growth, and effectively realize territorial potential, the Government recently approved the new Regional Development Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2025–2030. Its main principles are human-centeredness, integrity, inclusiveness, a differentiated approach, autonomy, and responsibility. The document provides for a comprehensive assessment of the state and development prospects of the regions. One of the main areas of the concept is the equitable provision of basic infrastructure for the population. Within this framework, special attention is given to eliminating disparities in access to socio-engineering facilities. Lagging regions will be prioritized for funding starting next year through the regional standards system. This will significantly improve the quality of life in remote areas. It is a new initiative in economic policy. Transfers from the republican budget to local budgets will be allocated solely for these purposes,” Kanat Bozumbayev said.
According to him, accessible internet will be provided under the national communication project. More than 3,000 settlements will be connected to the fiber-optic network. More than 100,000 km of fiber-optic lines are planned to be laid, and over 40,000 km of roads will be covered with broadband internet. Major cities of republican significance and regional centers will be connected to 5G technology. Over 1,000 villages will switch from 3G to 4G mobile technology. 504 remote rural settlements will be connected to the internet via satellite systems.
